Jun Lou, Karl F. Hasselmann professor of Materials Science and Nanoengineering, was named the 2025 MRS Fellow by the Materials Research Society (MRS), a leading global professional organization representing materials science researchers from academia, national laboratories, and industry.
Established in 1973, MRS has more than 13,000 members from 90 countries and represents material science researchers of diverse skills and expertise, including chemistry, biology, physics, engineering and beyond. Each year, since 2008, outstanding members whose sustained and distinguished contributions to the advancement of materials research are internationally recognized, are named as MRS Fellows.
Lou was one of 15 materials researchers named as the MRS Fellow this year. He was chosen for his outstanding contributions to the development of low-dimensional nanomaterials and the understanding of their complex electro-chemical and mechanical behaviors, and for dedication to education and service.
“I am very humbled to receive this honor,” Lou said. “It is a great recognition not just for me but for all the students and postdoc researchers I have had the pleasure to work with in the past two decades. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing the success of these brilliant young professionals. With their efforts, we have made excellent progress in the nanomechanical and multi-physics characterization of low-dimensional materials, made impactful strides in the synthesis and design of 2D materials beyond graphene and other nanomaterials, and developed advanced material systems and devices for energy and sustainability applications.”
