Jim Pyke ’97 receives Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award

Alum celebrated for contributions to the energy industry and to engineering education.

Jim Pyke

The George R. Brown School of Engineering and the Rice Engineering Alumni (REA) board recently announced Jim Pyke as a recipient of the Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award

This award was first presented by the REA in 1974, with George R. Brown as the initial recipient. It honors Rice engineering alumni for outstanding professional achievement and service to society.

Pyke is a seasoned leader with a wealth of executive experience in industry, consulting, and investment banking. He received his B.S. in mechanical engineering and B.A. in mathematics from Rice in 1997 and went on to earn his MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.

As the founder and principal of TCB Advisors, Pyke draws on his extensive experience in the energy industry to advise private equity firms and corporations across the energy transition space. Prior to founding his own company, he held leadership roles in a boutique consulting firm, Bridge Strategy Group (which was later acquired by investment bank Houlihan Lokey), and Quanta Renewable Energy Services, where he grew the business to over $100 million in annual revenue.

Pyke generously uses his industry connections and experience to support Rice Engineering and is a longtime champion for engineering education at Rice. He has served the REA as a board member, president, and leader for the task force that launched the REA Summer Engineering Experience (SEE).

Pyke was instrumental in establishing the goals and purpose of the SEE program, which aims to increase access to engineering internships by helping Rice students build industry connections and develop professional skills. Since the SEE program launched in the fall of 2020, 40 students have gained valuable hands-on professional engineering experience through these summer internships.

Outside of Rice Engineering, Pyke has served as a resource for Rice students as a Community Associate for Lovett College. He has also been a trusted board member and treasurer for the Denver Turnverein, a nonprofit social dance organization in Denver, Colorado.

Pyke will be honored along with the rest of the 2024 class of award recipients and the 2023 honorees at the George R. Brown School of Engineering Alumni Awards Celebration on September 12, 2024.
